No Needles!

Fear of needles - use Electronic Anaesthesia

Numbing Without Needles (Electronic Anaesthesia)

There are many advantages of having a numbing system that returns you to normal immediately after the treatment.

Some people are so needle phobic or have allergies to local anaesthetic that they have avoided dental treatment until now.

Many of our patients are in business with important meetings or lectures where they would prefer not to have a numb lip.

Electronic anaesthesia works in a similar way to a TENS machine but it has an interrupted rather than continuous wave form.

Sticky electrodes are placed on the gums near the teeth to be numbed and a mild tingling sensation is felt for several minutes as the nerve supply to the teeth eventually depletes of neurotransmitters and therefore becomes numb.

This technique is not however suitable for very deep fillings, root canals or extractions where more profound anaesthesia is required.

Patients who have had the electronic numbing always seem to ask for it again in preference over the normal local anaesthetic, which is a recommendation in itself.
